Question,, Has anyone cut out the section in the photo to clean the birdcage and successfully replaced it? Would appreciate guidance before I cut it out.
Thanks

The pillar post panel goes far under the quarter panel. It is sandwiched between the quarter panel and the rear floor part. Don't try it. You will probably be into a lott of problems unless you cut the quarter panel too, which will mean even more work and problems.

Why do you want to clean the birdcage. Is there any rot ?

Well, I cut the sections out yesterday. Was easy with a dremmel tool and a heat gun. I wanted to expose the birdgage front and back to blast it and seal it. On the 81's the inside of the panel is totally accessible. Wanted to know if anyone has ever glued or glassed the section back together, I have seen on other posts here that folks cut out the same section as I did for cage repairs. Thanks

Further looking at this after removal. I think I can cut small pieces of extra bonding strips I have. Bond them to the pillar panel from the back, then glass in matte and resin from the front or just use epoxy filler for the front. Seems as though once its bonded back down to the rocker cover its not going any place anyways.I think this will work fine. Thoughts?
