Default Windshield Washer Pump Wiring - Where's it go?

Hey, all!

This is one of the final components I need to fix on my 68 vert! Can you help me figure out where these two wires need to go on the washer pump? Is it as simple as plugging them in under the black cover just below them??? I've tried that, but it doesn't seem to work. One wire is green and the other is black.

Thanks

Don't know about the wire color on the 68 but those are the correct butt plugs for the washer and they indeed should plug in under the black "overhang" that protects the contact/connection points. The washer is activated when you push the wiper dash button in (vs sliding to the right).
Should make the pump run for one cycle.

Thanks.

Should I be able to hear the pump working??? I've plugged in both wires as you've stated, but I don't get any fluid movement that I'm aware of. Do I have to prime the system somehow?

The wiper arms work great - just not the pump as far as I can tell. Is the pump driven off the same motor?

Thanks again,

I suspect that your pump is the same as the one I had on my old 69 and it was the same as the one on my 71 so...going from there.

If you pull off the black plastic cover you'll see that those butt connectors simply cause a relay to pull a latch which allows the wiper motor transmission to drive the mechanical washer pump for one full revolution of the wiper transmission. You can do this by hand to test that the washer is working. Simply slide the large square catch latch off of its "perch" while the wipers are running and you'll see the washer pump move in/out for one revolution. If that works then test that the one of the wires are hot when you press the washer button in. If not you still have an electrical problem.
Once you get the pump working and verify that the electrical is doing its thing then yes, it will help if you prime the pump. Otherwise it takes many cycles for that pump to pull water all the way from your wiper water bottle.
