Default Hood Release

What causes the handle TO NOT go back after being pulled to unlock the hood? I have sprayed it with lube and worked the handle until my fingers got numb ..... AND THEN I BROKE MY CABLE that goes across hood from latch to latch .... so it is on order ....

But I am wondering if there could be problem with handle/cable UP TO LATCH ...... (that I sprayed as well) .....

There is SO much going on with this car, that I would NEVER have done to ANY car, much less a corvette ... but there are many airheads out there and THANK GOD for the good people on this site that have been
SO GREAT and I don't know what I would have done without all the great advice that I get on this site!!!!

under the hood where the hood release cable attaches to the latch on the drivers side... there is a round cable stop with a set screw in it. with the hood cable handle pushed in, there is probably some space below the stop before it hits the latch. simply loosen the set screw and lower the stop on the cable, and tighten the stop, and bend the cable closer to the stop

The hood latches on each side have a spring that closes the latch. Maybe the latch is dirty or bound up. One of my springs snapped and I can't find a replacement. I don;t need the whole latch, just the spring that opens and closes the latches.

DANGER!!!!! Plesae don't say you ordered the Ecklers cable! It is a cheap imported piece of junk! It will only last a day or so. You can still buy an ORIGINAL GM CABLE from your local Chevy Dealer. A few more dollars but well worth it. I know, as I thought I would save a few $$ and bought the Ecklers cable. It came apart after the 3rd pull and then the hood wouldnt open. Just thought I would warn you before you make the same mistake I did. Also, there are Eckler grimlins lurking here on the board. I know of one and he isnt even a Vette owner. Go figure! Ecklers cable lasted 24 hours, Original GM cable lasted 27 years! I rest my case..... Flame off

Default Stock Sucks

I've had the cable break on me before. It is a giant PITA. I'm going to install old fashioned hood pins. I can get locking hood pins and they look good. The crappy cable and release is a problem waiting to happen.

There is a spring on the cable assembly that keeps pressure on the cable/handle,did it break,do you have one installed?

Cross hood cable is installed .... works fine and I can open hood by pulling the handle inside cab, and the spring does return the latch, but does not pull the handle back into "ready" position without my help pushing it back.

The adjusting barrel/nut appears correctly installed and allows latch to return all the way back ...... maybe a "frayed/bound" Handle cable, to the latch?????

Default Update

I tried to replace with handle/solid cable .... it wouldn't go through and come up, so I PUNTED ..... got myself a GM OEM stranded cable that had bracket .... replaced and works like new! I am pretty concerned with aftermarket/foreign stuff, as when it doesn't work, I always go back to OEM and have not had any problems.....

Anyway, that little problem is fixed

Post up the install or pics when you can. I would like to see how and have thought of this as well.

IMHO, Hood pins are a pita. Cleaning up and repairing the stock latches once every 25 yrs or so seems to work pretty good for me. Nice and clean, works a long time.

I am having the same problem with a solid cable . the handel won't return even with new spring. Sounds like the fix is a new gm handle.

I agree --- I stopped ordering anything from Ecklers about a year ago. Their stuff has really gone downhill (junk, junk, junk) and tere are so many other quality vendors to go to. Stay away from Ecklers

here's a different option. run an "emergency" release cable. hangs down the firewall, virtually invisible, and it actually works.

cLiCk if interested...

Default Keep it Simple

I would bolt the new hood pins on the old hood releases. Someone posted a pic of a C3 w/hood pins, very nice in my opinion.
