Default hiddle problem's

Hi guys, I just received my new vette and I really love it!!!
But there's a first problem!!!! Ill taked the car of the towing and ''VROOM'' turn the motor on. Unfurtunatly I can't go take a ride cause there's a snowstorm outside so I just park it in my garage. The cars run really great but suddenly the cars stop. I try to start it but nothing!!! No more battery!!! I boost it and when the car start the iddle stay really high (2500 RPM) and dont want to go down. The iddle stay normal when I push on the little plate on the carburator. When I dont push on the plate it goes HIgh again.

I dont know anything yet about vette but I really want to learn about this fantastic car and its the reason why I purchase it.

So please, does some good shepherd could solve my problem??

Thanks!!!!

(sorry for my english im a french canadian!!! but I want to learn!!!!

Welcome tot he forum friend. Good to see other young owners excited about Corvettes.

It sounds like you have a few issues all rolled into one.

You say it died and wouldn't start until you jumped it? Did it run okay and for a long period after that?

I suspect you may have a bad battery, a bad alternator, or both. It would be best to remove both, take them to a parts store that tests such things, and have them tested. If they do not pass then replace them as needed.

The high idle problem as you describe it sounds like the choke. You blip the throttle and the idle lowers and then raises again until you do it again sounds like your choke. Does it still do this even after it's hot?

yes it keep turning at 2500 rpm about 8 or 10 minutes long.

but the question that turn in my head is why the first time I turned the key "ON'' it run normal and smooth????

I know that the car dont start as much in the next 6 month. Does this can influence??

The first time you turned the key and it ran good was it warm? If cold the choke will keep it running fast til it warms up, and then you need to "blip" the throttle to release the choke plate.
Make sure the battery cables are tight. I would even disconnect both of them and reattach em so you know they are making good contact with the battery.

Tonight I will check to disconnect my battery. And maybe lets turn the motor for 15 minutes at 2500 rpm.

Is it to long for the motors to turn at 2500 rpm??

Thanks guy's I really apreciate your help.

OK, I'm assuming you're more familier with late model fuel injected cars where you just get in them and turn the key. On our old Corvettes you get in and depress the gas pedal to set the choke. What that does is close a plate over the carb to make the motor run rich. Attached to the choke linkage is a stepped cam that the idle adjustment screw rests against. When the choke closes, the stepped cam is in a position where the idle screw is on the highest spot causing the idle to be high. As the motor warms the choke plate slowly opens BUT the idle screw keeps the cam from moving to a slower idle position. You need to quickly press the gas pedal to release that cam against the idle screw. Idle will drop down. If you just let it run for 15 minutes without pressing the gas it will continue to idle at the higher speed. When the motor is warm the choke will be open and you won't get the fast idle.
Some people will say 1 year old gas will be bad but personally I don't think it would be a problem. I would siphon it out and use it in my work van if it was me, tho!
As for the battery, when it's running does the gauge show that it is charging? The fact that your original post says it just stopped running makes it sound like it could be an alternator problem. A properly operating alternator will allow the car to run even if the battery was disconnected. If the alternator isn't doing it's job the car will be running on battery power until there is no more juice left in the battery.
I just went through that with my wifes 98 Malibu! Took 3 batteries to get her home! She got to my brothers and I changed out the battery. Got another 10 miles and I had to change it out again. Got it home and put in a new alternator and the original never recharged battery went back in. Started and ran great. A good battery will actually recover without charging it.(thank goodness I had all the batteries out of my Vettes for the winter!)

bonjour, mon ami,
That's the limit of my schoolboy French, but welcome aboard! There are Forum members all over the world, even down here in the Antipodes. Never be afraid to ask a question, but a piece of advice:-
Purchase a good Workshop Manual and an Assembly Instruction Manual for your model year and, although the English may cause you a few problems, most of your questions can be answered there.

For all the other questions, we are here for you.

Bon apres midi et,
