Gas gauge gone crazy

Pegged (full) is a sign the gauge has lost contact with the sender. you checked the ground, check the connection at the tank from the gauge.
I use a 12v test light between the wire from the gauge (disconnected at the tank) to ground- should show about 1/2 tank. Shake everything around too- could be just dirty.

I would also suspect the connection on the PC board for the guages. Mine does that every once in awhile and it is that connector. The easiest way to play with it is to remove the glove box insert and reach in until you feel the connector. Wiggle it a bit and see what happens.
