MELVIN, with Lars' instructions, you should be able to check the amount of mechanical advance you're getting. You should check it. When I checked my stock L36 distributor, I found that my mechanical advance was giving 34 degrees of advance. This is too much, since you'll only be able to run around 2 degrees initial timing to keep the total at 36. I think the factory did this on purpose, since my L36 stock spec is for 4 degrees of initial timing. They run better with more initial timing.

The fix (with Lars' help), was to weld a little metal to the slot that the bushing rides in, then file it to the correct, smaller size (lars has the spec.)

-Joe

Hi Lars..
I had emailed you a week ago about tuning info. Im the guy with the mallory dual point that wanted to swap it for the MSD probillet w/tach drive and 6a module.
It showed up at my door yesterday..whooowee..Its an awsome looking setup.
I was real surprised at the size of the module though , its a huge and weighty box, I had thought it would be smaller. Ive gone through the installation of both parts and its real straightforward, ...except the getting it tuned in to my system part
Ill be putting it in tomorrow and referencing this post with a magnifying glass as I try to time it. If I get confused  (Im not at all intuitive with correct timing procedures) especially with why to change the weight of the centrifical springs, that little bushing arrangement or the vacuum advance setting . I dont even know where to port the vacuum canister to my holley 4160 vac 2ndary carb yet  .
Anywhoo Ill post what happens tomorrow and Ill take some install pics too..Maybe itll all just fall right in where its supposed to be :) That would be a first
Thanks again for making these procedures available to the lamer of us here...Its invaluable!!
Tom
