While replacing all the dash light I had to remove the light switch for a good cleaning. Upon opening the vac valve that is mounted to the bottom of the switch a small (I'll call it a cam for lack of better technical term) cam popped out. It looks as if the switch rod controls this cam and positions it so vac is flowing to operate the doors. I am 100% sure; the vacuum lines are not reversed. I marked them before I removed them. Prior to this, I had to use the dump valve under the column to operate the lights. I will mostly purchase a new switch, but was hopping someone may know about the inner workings for this little vac valve. If I can get it to work again, I save anywhere from $40-$60.
i did the same thing and put the switch back together.... had a vacuum diagram that i used to check my work.... but in the end i switched the lines on the headlight switch and the lights worked... everything worked
i had two vacuum diagrams... one from Zip, one from C/C... i used Zips and to get the lights to work i switch the lines at the switch... so with your question of the leak i pulled the corvette central vacuum diagram and it has the vacuum sourse pluged into the port on the dash side, and that is, what i did in the end.... the c/c diagrams i have are for 68-82 and all use the same port on the switch, to plug the vacuum sourse into... i have no leak... Zip was on the fire wall side
Jack and Bashcraft, thanks for the input. But I don't have a leak. On the underside of the light switch is a small vacuum valve. I open this little item up to clean it and out popped a (I'll call it a cam) cam. I put it back together but the lights don't move. I marked the lines before I remove the switch so I would put them back on correctly. I also tried switching them just in case I did put them on wrong. So I am certain the line are on correct. I was hopping some may know more about the little vacuum valve mounted to the bottom the switch.
i could not remember what was in that valve... and i know i have an old one some place, but i can't find it...... so i took a new one apart....
#1- 1"x 5/16" flat blue spring plate
#2- 1"x 5/16" silver plate with two ovel slots
#3- 1-1/8"x 5/16" black rubber cam with nipples that fit into the slots of the silver plate
#4- all of this fits into a small shoe or box that slides with the light switch
that manifold can be put on two ways, but only works one way... so i will try to send a picture... hope this helps
