Re: Engine Wont Start--Help (Rich80)
First check to make sure you are getting 12 volts to the dist.
Could be coil or the ignition module or even the pick up coil in the distributor.
I believe the module can be tested, but I have had good ones fail the testing and bad ones pass. I just replace with new. They are the cheapest part in the distributor.
Replace the cap and rotor while you are in there, unless fairly new.
Also make sure the advance weights move freely and work correctly.
If the module does not correct the problem, then go on to the coil. Then the pick up coil.
Okay. I removed the coil from the top of the distributor cap. There is a yellow, red and black wire. I put an ohm meter across the yellow and red wire and it reads infinity or no resistance. I put the leads across the red and black or yellow and black and it reads open or infinity. The coil is actually loose in the bracket (A Square) that surrounds it and is showing burn marks in the center of the coil where the bracket runs thru.....Any ideas?
