Hi
my 1972 Manual tranny sometimes doesn't rev the starter engine, I must handle the shifter and move it to have the starter working. There should be a false contact somewhere: how can bypass the starter inhibition?
thanks
The 72s had a clutch switch. You must depress the clutch in order for the starter motor to go. The switch is located at the top of the clutch pedal and has two purple wires attached to it. In order to bypass this the wires would have to be cut and put together. This would allow the car to start in gear, not a good situation. If it is working I would leave it alone and just depress the clutch to start it.
here's a long shot. if your car was an automatic and was changed to a 4 speed, it had a neutral safety switch that was wired to the auto shifter. if it was converted, maybe the guy just jury-rigged a switch attached to the replacement 4 speed shifter, and his handy work is failing. that's why you have to move the shift lever? just my wild guess.
