I have a 1975 with an intermitent starter problem. It has been doing this for years. Sometimes when you turn the key, nothing happens except the volt meter needle swings toward discharge about a quater of an inch. Each time you turn the key this happens, but at times the starter catches. I keep an extra button behind the seat to push that is connected directly to the battery and a wire to the solinoid. Thats how I start it if it is in the "nothing happens" mode.
Could this problem be related to the seat belt system used on the 75s? You have to have the seat belt fastened before the car will start. (I always fasten my seat belt). Maybe a bad relay? My 74 VW does the same thing but much less than the Vette.
I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thank You
Check your ground. I had some starter wierdness that turned out to be a frayed stater ground to frame cable. Cleaned the area, replaced the cable, and voila! No more problems.
Had the same problem, it is in the adjustment of the rod to the ignition switch. From the key tumbler there is a rod that attaches the tumber to the ignition switch. Over time and starts the switch could have moved slightly down the column causing the intermitant starts. Remove the duct work under the drivers side, if you have AC and you will see the ignition switch mounted to the top of the column and the attachment bolts. Loosen the bolts and that will allow the switch to move along the column for the adjustment.
Good luck, hope that helps,
