Sorry about this - I couldn't find what I wanted in the archives, but I'll try to keep it short ;)
Has anybody changed from a Performer intake to an Air Gap? If so, was it worth it, was there much of a power gain?
As the Air Gap is taller would I be able to retain my stock air cleaner, with snorkels, by using a drop base (we've got plenty of cool air, so it would be a shame to not use it :) ). If that would work, then would the reduced gap between the carb top & the air cleaner lid mess up the air flow through the carb? Or would it make more sense to fit a standard non EGR Performer?
TIA
Paul
i dont think you can use an air gap with the stock air cleaner... though i think a custom one would look really snazzy when you open the hood at a show
just a thought and a little bit of an answer :jester
I think the http://www.edelbrock.com web site has the dimensions of each posted somewhere, or you can get it from their tech support.
Then using some clay or something, you should be able to find out how much clearance you have now.
Then do some math, and figure out how much you will have left with the Air Gap, and figure out if you need a drop base (probably, based on everything I have read, it won't fit), and how tall THAT can be to fit.

Re: Intake manifolds (UKPaul)
Hey Paul the Air Gap is a great manifold when I put mine on I was impressed with the power increase and it looks better too.
I have a Comp 270H cam and low restriction dual exhaust so it really sings at high RPM, highly recommended.
It will fit with a smaller air cleaner ( you'll have to get a K&N Exteme top or a normal size drop base will fit )
There are two steps ( IM me if you have any questions )

Re: Intake manifolds (UKPaul)
Paul --> If your engine is mostly stock then you might not get the full benefit from thr RPM Air Gap. That being said I think you should
get better power out of the Air Gap over the Performer. I had a Performer on mine and when I switched I thought I would be happy if I would only notice a small difference. Well was I suprised the first time I put it to the floor, there was a definate kick in the pants over
3000 RPM and I did not notice any difference at lower RPM's.
I guess I would not recommend the Air Gap to someone with a stock motor that already had a Perfomer because there might not be much of a power gain but since you don't have the Performer already then why not. You really need a cam, headers and dual exahaust
to get the full benefit though.
