Default 71 stock wheel height

From the threads that I've read, it looks like the modern stock tire size for my 71 is 225/70R15. This results in 27.4" diameter. Others have said the stock wheel has 27" diameter which equates to 255/60R15. Is the stock wheel 27" or 27.4"? I'm trying to get a set of tires for my 17" rims and I want to keep the speedometer as accurate as possible. Thanks.

If you're talking about outer diameter the Tire Rack shows mine at 27.1 inches.........

255/50X17. Same diameter as the stock 255/60X15.

But I read some posts stating the stock size is 225/70R15 which has an outside diameter of 27.4". If I go with 255/50R17, it will only give me 27". Will that make a big difference in the accuracy of the speedometer? Thanks.

In my case it sure didn't. My Vette came with G70-15s....or the same as a 225/70. And my speedo is right on the money................

According to Tire Rack says your 71 size should be 205/70 which are 27.1. Later years call for 225/70 or optional 255/60. What size are you running now. Compare that size to the others.

I have 255/60R15 right now.

Tire Rack says 205/75R15 and Discount Tire Direct says 225/70R15. I have no idea which has the correct size.

They would be about the same diameter. But no C3 ever came with 75 series tires.............
Did you mean 205/70?

Thank. 215/70-15 is about 26.85" that is pretty close to 255/50-17.

Original 68-72 F70-15 tires were 26.92"

P215/70R15 are the closest to the original size and appearance

=CaptainHook;1559798935]I have 255/60R15 right now.
Bottom line is if you are running 255/60X15 now, 255/50x17 will give them same speedo readings. They are the same diameter. Research complete.

Looks like a good choice. Please post pics when you get them on. I am runnning 255/50X15 on the 65 now but I plan to go to 17s. That is the size I was considering as well. I would like to see what they look like on the rim. I want newer design tires but I don't want the tire sidewall too thin. I think this size will be perfect for me as well.

Will do. The rims should arrive next week. I have to shop around for a good price on the Bridgestone tires.
