It depends on what you want. If you want fuel econiomy, get a Performer or Performer RPM. If you want performance, get a original Torker or a Victor Jr...
Ideally, you want a manifold that performs best at the same RPM that your engine performs best. It doesn't make sense to put a Victor Jr. on a engine wthat peaks below 5000 RPM, nor does it make sense to put a Performer intake on an engine reving to 6000+ RPM..

I get plenty of tire spinning power with my Edelbrock Performer intake. Mine is a high torque, 300hp variant. My torque converter may be a little looser than stock with its 1800 stall and the very low 1st gear of my 700R4 and 3.55 gearing in the back help also.

Oh, and my air cleaner is 1980 OEM with stock ducting. One thing I've done is to disable the vacuum actuators so it gets cold air all of the time; regardless of whether it is warm or cold. I found the passenger side actuator tended to be partially closed the majority of the time so I 'fixed' it with some hardware to remain open full-time.

yeah i always want what i don't need too,but life would be boring if just didn't go for it. wish i had a motor that would handle that intake, oooooohhhhh the fun i could have.

BTW: i have an edelbrock performer EPS intake, edelbrock performer 600 cfm carb, with the edelbrock elite series triangle breather, it all fits under my stock 78 L82 hood, and runs great, made a big diffrence in performance.

Is the rest of that engine a stock L82?
I have been pondering the performer/RPM/EPS setup for my 77 stock L82.
I'll keep the qjet though.

Best intake depends on the setup.

74batmobile
W/ your TH-400, Performer or Action+ w/Q-J or EPS w/ squarebore carb.

supercalvin
W/ a Q-J you could run the Performer AirGap (not RPM) & stock air filter, but no spacer.

Hi Power setups
The 76-79 med. rise hood allows the Victor Jr, RPM & others on SB w/ aftermarket (about 1 1/4") dropbase filter (about 3") & Holley.
