Default Rally Wheels

I just bought a pair of 8inch rally wheels for my 68 to put in back. The bolt pattern matches up fine, but the center whole is bigger and not resting on the little lip. I have been told that this is the case with many aftermarket wheels and I can use without any problems, but I thought this lip was important, that it carried most of the weight of the car and that the lug nuts kept the wheel from spinning. Any thoughts?

Not to worry, most aftermarket wheels don't fit the hub exactly (unless you fit an adapter specifically for your hub). This is the classic hub-centric vs lug-centric discussion, and if I recall correctly, the load of the wheel is primarily supported by the friction between the wheel and hub created by the force of the lug nuts being tightened. The most important thing for you to remember is to not lower the vehicle on to the wheel before doing the final torquing since the load could cause tohe wheel to settle off-center. Just be sure to tighten the wheel completely while it's still in the air.

I think the 68 hubs were smaller than the 69-82. The wheel bearings were also diffrent.
