Default '75 Front Suspension...

Morning men..

I may well be changing out the coils and shocks for a new set tomorrow - I've already got Bilstiens on the back and a pair waiting to go on the front. I also plan to change the bushings on the control arm...

Anything unusual I should be aware of from anyone who's already done this and had a nasty shock?

Cheers.

The upper and lower tapered bolts on my ball joints were a real pain getting apart. Make sure you buy the ball joint fork tool to get those apart. I'd replace them while you have it apart. I went with the VB&P front end poly rebuild kit. Has everything you need.
I used a hydraulic floor jack to take up the spring tension until I got everything loose. Then lower the A Arm and pop out the spring. Be sure to put a piece of all thread thru or strap the spring for safety.
Changing the outer sleeves on the upper/lower A Arm bushings was aslo a pain but I was able to do mine with various outbursts of profanity.

I have the kit coming today and already bought a set of spring straps... think I'll take your advice and get a fork tool also... sounds like it'll be a good day with new four letter words being invented!! Thanks guys - I know a bit more of what ot expect now as the books always make things seem a lot easier than they are...

The ball joint fork is the wrong tool. JC Whitney sells the right one, it's H-shaped with a fork at one end and a bolt at the other. It separates joints smoothly, quickly and safely - the fork does none of those.

You might have trouble getting one or two of the ball joints out. The hole in the spindle might be tapered. Kragen rents out the proper tool to press it out, if you can't knock one out after about 10 whacks, get the tool.

It's all good so far... Good tips from you guys and Kragen is just round the corner should I need a better 'persuader' than the good old knocking stick for the ball joints... My JB&P parts have arrived and the other box of goodies is outside the apartment door according to FedEx online!
