It would seem to me that a manual transmission would prefer better performance in the lower RPM range. I guess it didn't dawn on me when I decided to switch to a manual that you lose the benefit of the TC. I know enough about my setup that when I ran my 2004R locked, it never liked being below 2000 rpm. I was thinking about switching over to a Super Victor single plane (or equivalent) but now I am thinking about sticking with my RPM AirGap. (Discussed in recent post)
It is dependant on the package as a whole.
Obviously a shorter rear gear will allow for more cam but then so will a M-20 over a M-21! Motor displacment has a huge effect & you throw comp ratio in the fray & you begin to see you have to look at your combo indivually & decide what you want it to do.
Generally, stock automatic tranny cars come with a taller rear gear because of the Tq multiplying factor.
