I painted my 72 with PPG Deltron base (DCC) and clear in December. It hasn't been out of the shop yet, and I have two little spots to touch up and blend in. My question is, can I use the base, clear, and/or reducer that I have left over? I'd have to get more hardener.
If not, I was thinking of ordering a spray can of matching PPG base and clear for these touchups.
Thanks for the info in advance! This is going to be the best spring ever!
DBC and DBU are the only base coats in the deltron line. DCC is a single stage. As long as the can is sealed after use DBC is ok till activated, DBU is junk after 4hrs once reduced with the reactive reducer (DRR reducer) DCC single stage is good until activated. Reducers have a very good shelf life.
I used DCC "single stage" as base coat, and the clear that you'd normally mix with it as a seperate base/clear system so that I could paint all five coats (2 base, 1 half-and-half, 2 clear) without waiting for them to cure inbetween. Less dust in my paint that way, according to the Keystone paint salesman. Seemed to work well.
I don't remember the code for that clear, but I'm assuming it will be okay to use still, too?
The PPG tech sheets say that concept (DCC) can be cleared over. The clear should be OK if the can was closed tight. Did you have the 2002 clear? That's my favorite.
A little trick I learned for prolonging life of paint in cans, before putting the lid back on, lay food wrap over can, lift up corner of food wrap enough to breathe hot air into can, then quickly seal it and put lid on.
Little OT, but thought I'd throw it out there.
