Default LS6/4L60E...

Any information about putting this combination into a c3? I am thinking on going this route. I spoke with bowtie overdrives and I think they are working on a project to put the LS1 and a 4L60E into a C3. I would just like to start getting as much information as I can about this, from the fuel tank/supply changes to mounting concerns, to control module issues, electric issues, and cooling issues.

Thanks,

Shouldn't be a problem. S & P makes the harness, motor, tranny, motor mounts, etc. http://www.tunedport.com You can use your stock fuel sending unit or install a 82 sending unit with a high pressure fuel pump. Easy stuff. You will require new acc. brackets and acc.s. Alt. pwst, and air compressor, but they will all work with your current systems. Bottom end on this project would be large$$$$$well over $10,000.

Check it out. Rich Lagasse (sp?) put one in a 62 along with an updated suspension. It doesn't get much better than this (I'm sure it wasn't cheap either!!!).

This month's issue of Chevy High Performance has a 63 Coupe with an LS6 in it. Probably take a little work. I think the motor mounts are different and can be fabricated if no one makes them. As mentioned, the harness is available from Srteet & Performance. They're tops in the Street Rod world.

Thought about it myself.

The bucks are definitly an issue. That is why my project may take another year or more. I was searching on the LS6 and I think Sallee sells the engine in a premium kit with the ECM and it seems to already be setup to work with the 4L60E.

Rich's site is incredible. I was actualy there last night and didn't even see the pages on the LS6. I was too intrigued by the awesome garage and wishing I had a garag like that. That is one awesome garage and car.

Thanks, I will keep all posted as progress is made. I think I have done well to get to this point and the forum keeps me inspired to keep going.

Look for a few back issues of Vette Magazine. You can see past article topics on their site. They are in the process of putting an LS1 and 4l60E in a shark, haven;t seen much on it lately and it's almost killing me! Currently to begin this project they explored Crate engine options, installed a 4l60E (into a differnt car) and Did a side by side comparison of the LS1 and the L48 just for good measure, so I am anxious. I think the project would cost significantly less if you follow 70LS1's good example and locate yourself such a good deal on an engine tranny combo on a totalled car. Between His project and the vette articles I bet you could get more than enough advice to tackle it!

The project that vette magazine is doing is als the one that bowtie overdrives is working on. I talked to Steve Holmes at bowtie overdrives and the article should show up in the spring maybe summer. He was not sure. It all depends on how things work out. He is the one who gave me the idea to go with the LS6. Although they are planning on using the ls1, I thought it would be nice to go with the ls6. I am just trying to gather as much information as I can and be ready for the project.

Thanks,

You can plan on spending between $6000 and $8000 for the completed project. Now that is assuming you do all of the work yourself. Paying a shop to do the same job would be outrageous.

As far as using an LS6 instead of an LS1, you are looking at a very large price difference. The LS6 is only used in the Z06 Corvette where as the LS1 is used in thousands of Camaro's, Firebirds, and Corvettes. An LS1 is an LS1 is an LS1 mechanically the same. Let's assume you are going to get these out of a wrecked car. Finding a good LS1 will be much easier and cheaper than an LS6. It goes back to that whole dilemma of everything with the name Corvette attached to it costs more.

Also, the F-body (Camaro/ Firegird) engine trans combo is easier to deal with. The Corvette has the transmission in the rear attached to the differential. You would have to get a transmission elsewhere and mate it up to your engine.

If it is the power of the LS6 you are after, you could take an LS1 and install a cam, and a more free flowing intake and exhaust and end up with an engine more powerful than the LS6. Add the red fuel rail covers and no one will ever know.

One more thing, still assuming you are getting this from a wrecked car. Go with the F-body engine. There are several small problems that you have to deal with if you choose the Corvette engine.

All in all, it is a big project that is a lot of fun.
Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

Yeah, something about the Fbody oilpan fitting much easier than the y-body "batwing" style pan

In addition to the oil pan, you have to deal with the throttle body and some of the computer signals are different.
