Anybody install a Ramjet 350
Just wondering if anyone had done an installation of a chevy ramjet crate motor in a C3, will it fit under the stock hood, how did you handel the tach drive issue?
Just curious.

Haven't seen it done yet. It will fit under the stock hood, but with no cool air duct. As far as the tach, it would have to be built for the application. No problem. I looked into the Ram Jet and it looks like a good motor. I think it would easier to install a crate ZZ-4 with a aftermarket injections system. It would look traditional and you modify the stock tach.

I don't have a RamJet 350, but FWIW, I have the GM Performance Parts brochure and the picture makes it look like the top of the injection unit is no more than about 2" above the top of the distributor cap tips, so I would think that it'd fit under the stock hood. I think I'd find out about converting my tach before I thought about putting my mehanical tach drive distributor back in (is there such a thing as an aftermarket mech tach drive?).
Anyway, I mostly just wanted to piggy back on this question and ask if anyone knows why the brochure says "the Ram Jet 350 also makes it easy to have electronic fuel injection on any 1975 or older vehicle originally quipped with a carburetor." ? The key curiosity being why "1975 or older".

"Emissions laws..." -- as in the Ram Jet doesn't come with any emissions? I would think that it would burn much cleaner than my stock '77, but then we know that common sense and the law often don't go hand-in-hand

I looked into the conversion very well.
The RamJet fits under the hood and to keep a mechanical tach use either an MSD unit or Mallory also make a Mechanical version. MSD would be my choice.

Advanced
I have a 65 Vette with a GM Performance ZZ4 fast burn cate engine.
It has a Mallory point-conversion distributor with canister style coil and a mechanical tach drive.
I bought a used Ram Jet MPFI set up complete with the distributor.
The distributor will be plug and play with the RAM Jet wiring harness but I will loose my mechanical tach cable connection and will have to convert the tach to electronic input. This is easy to do and will cost about $250 but I really like the old-school mechanical tach and would like to keep it.
I can't find any tachs that will plug into the RAM Jet wiring harness.
What are my alternatives?
Thanks for your help.

I have one in my 68....
use a tach from a 75-77. It accepts the output from the ramjet system.
use an oil pan from a mid 90's GM for one piece rear seal.
I have a L88 hood (but I don't think it would fit under a flat hood).
You can see some pics to left under my pics...and here are some links with pics.

It sounds like you are knowledgable on this subject and might be able to answer my question.
