Default engine bench test wiring......need help!!

What is the correct way to do this? I want to get the engine running, and check for leaks.

TIA

Just get 12v to the starter, then a switched 12v supply to the START terminal and another switch to the coil. Don't forget the temp and oil pressure too.

Let me know if this will work:

positive from battery to fuse
fuse to toggle switch(on/off)
toggle to start on starter
from start to positive on coil

Grounded from back of engine to negative on battery.

starter button from S to R on starter

??????????

is this an HEI or points distributor?

starter button from S to R on starter???? no i don't think so

the two starter button wires will so from 1. the main lug connection from the battery positive terminal to 2. the "S" stud marked "S" (closest to the engine on most GM solenoids)

the start terminal will draw too much current for most toggle switches. If it fries it when the starter is engaged, you won't be able to stop the starter unless you unhook the cable.
Be better to get a regular start button and run from the battery + either at the battery or the battery terminal at the starter.
