Default Sidepipe Mufflers

I'm looking really hard at the STS baffles. Does anyone else make a baffle for a sidepipe. The STS baffles are looking like the way to go, I'm runnng NO mufflers right now, and it's a wee bit loud. The Hooker slip in mufflers just kill everything- sound, power, the whole show.

The new Hooker Max Flow inserts claim a 23 HP increase over open headers. They are a straight through 2 1/2" insert. About $150. They are loud and nonrestricive.

I had the SweetThunders (2 1/4") and they were great. I recently bought the Hooker Maxflows (2 1/2") - they are about as loud as the SweetThunder inserts but the tone is deeper. I ran both mufflers with a 350SB.
I changed the mufflers because the 2 1/4" may have been a little too restrictive for the 383 that I built.... haven't tested the Hookers with the 383 yet.

If you have a SB you'll be happy with either one of these mufflers, the SweetThunders in 2 1/2" may be a little too loud though....

I've got a BB-- 454 with everything inside that came from either a LS-7 a ZL-1 or an L-88. 12.5 to 1, rectangle port aluminum heads, the works. I really like running no mufflers, but the guys in the cars with the lights on top seem to have some issues..

My vote is for STS - reasonable (but loud) sound and I only lost 14hp compared to correct length open race pipes. Here is an old post of mine that has a couple of sound clips.

that sounds like the STS baffles are your only choice, 2.5" Maxflows will likely still be restrictive for that BB.

If you buy the Maxflows for $150 you'll always wonder if the baffles are better.... you'll end up buying those anyways.. ..cheaper to buy them now, how much are they ? $350 ??

prior to the sts baffles i was running the sweet thunder 2.5" inserts and agree with MYBAD79 that they are loud. you could hear me coming blocks away . a nice feature that the sts baffles has are end caps where you can drill holes or remove them entirely to tune them, make them louder and more free flowing. compared between the two, the thunders were alot louder.

Ive got the sweet thunder 2 1/2in inserts and love the sound. In another thread someone said that they are coming out with a larger size soon or they already did, I dont remeber, in any event I recommend them. Good luck with whatever you decide.

How much quieter are the 2 1/4 sweet thunder's than the Hooker Max flows.

I now have the max flows and the thing is too loud for my taste I dont want to be heard blocks away and right now my girlfriend says I cant sneek up on her and suprise her, and I would like to talk to the passenger when going down the road. I have some reverse flows on order but I dont think I will like them either, Iam afraid they will be too quiet.

With the max flows, I checked my plugs and they are too lean and I have been laking in rejetting the carb because I need to settle on what muffler I want.

So what is there that is a step quieter than these Max flows ?????

Iam running a 350 block,,

Thanks
