Default What special tool for Header bolts.

I installed the hooker headers and sidepipes today. Do you guys have any special tools to tighten the header bolts at the heads? Do you have a suggestion of a better bolt than what Im using? I am using a standard header bolt and thinking that there must be a better way to tighten these suckers. Any help?

I use a Snap-on long handle 12 point wrench. and I just tighten the p-waddin out of them. They're gonna' come loose anyway. I tighten them daily when I'm driving the thing. AFTER it's cooled off. And (old habits die hard) anytime the hood's open I check again, both the intake and the headers.

I use a 60 degree angle open end wrench to run the bolts down and a box end to tighten my header bolts. Earl's Pressure seal gaskets have kept my headers tight and leak free for 3 years.

I bought a set of craftsman 1/4" universial sockets. Using that, a small extension and a 1/4 to 3/8 adaptor gets in there well. They are 45 bucks at sears, I found them on ebay for less.

use a combination wrench and use the open end to seat the bolts and grind down the outside of the box end so its thinner around the circumference and it will slip over the bolts to tighten them

Great idea I like the idea about the 1/4 inch sockets too.

I always use reduced-head bolts for the headers. It is just so much easier to work with them.

I usually get ARP stainless.

Stage 8 bolts (Summit & Jeg's) have a very small hex head with an allen head feature in the center. Between the two you can always get something in there to tighten them. They also come with a half-moon washer and e-clip which you install after they've been tightened and prevents them from backing out. You don't have to keep retightening them which is a pita.

Nothing is better than homemade:

Here's how good it fits:

5 minutes with an angle grinder and the 12 point wrench fits like a glove
