is there an easy way to reset the total mileage odometer on a 70 style speedo? i'd like to start with zero miles after my rebuild.
also, the catalogues show cushons for the speedo and tach. does anyone know where they are placed?
thanks, jeff
I think only if you're trying to decieve a potential buyer. It's not illegal to replace a spedometer as long as it's disclosed when the car is sold, so this shouldn't be any different, but I could be wrong.

Cars older than 25 years old (in most states) are exempt from odometer disclousure I believe.
You are still required to disclose mileage or ALTERATION of mileage in many states.
You're doing a complete rebuild and keeping information, so why not record odometer reading even take a pics for a future buyer if you ever sell it. Then replace your speedo or reset the ODO.
There are a couple of ways to do it, but some run the risk of damaging the gears. With the back off the odo, you can sometimes click the digits over one by one.
or you can connect the speedo cable to a drill motor and rev it up. Watch the miles go by until it rolls over. This could take a while; even at 120 mph you're only going to click off 2 miles per minute.
Using a drill will work, except at 100k there's a paper retainer on the back of the odometer that is supposed to tear, allowing a white mark to appear between the digits. IT can be done, but it ain't easy.
Something about a federal law too. "Odometer Tampering". I know everyone on here has mentioned that, but the Feds usually don't play so nice. Best bet wold be to find a repro speedo, put that in and keep the old one. That way I don't think they can mess with you.

There are several cusions. Two foam ones where the plastic frame that holds the the turn signal, etc filters, contacts the sheet metal housing, and there are three lens cushions between the bezel and the lens.
