Default L82 Cam

Does anyone know if an 80 -L82 has some kind of a upgrade on the cam? And what effect if any does it have on the idle ? thanks, Dan

It depends on what you mean by upgrade. The cam in the L82 is an upgrade over the cam in the L48.

I don't think it has any effect on the idle.

When my 79 was still stock the idle was pretty tame, but I have heard from other corvette guys that the stock cam is pretty hot....

Not sure what motivates the question, but I hope that helps.

It has a little more idle than the L-48 and a looser converter in an automatic car to address it.

Thanks for the replies I just wanted to know if the L82 has any other engine or horsepower adjustments other than the high compression ratio to boost the horse power up from 190 to 230. I am trying to addup the gain by subtracting all the polution control and catalyic converter. Adding headers and a K&N filter. This was how I bought the car 2 years ago I know its hypothetical but I like to play with numbers.

The difference in power is the L-82 cam, larger valves (2.02 1.60) & higher c/r.
Better ex. will help your 80 L-82. See what many refer to as my Exhaust topic.

I forgot to add that in time past When I went to test drive another Vette the seller said that part of the reason it idles rough is because it has a hi performance Cam in it . I didnt buy the car but I like the way it sounded.

The L-82 has just a slight idle roughness. It has incresed compression as well. It is a little soft at the bottom end RPM but will rev higher at the top than the L-48. High flow catalytic converter or a true dual setup will help a lot. It will rev even higher with better cylinder heads.

I think Chevy used the '962' cam in them. When I built the motor for my Nova, I chose that one and it ran like a scalded egg.

<<hmmm...does a scalded egg run?>>
