Default exaust systems

ok so its finally time to start learning about upgrades. My MT '90 already has true dual exaust pipes coming rom the original manifolds and it has the stock mufflers. How can I upgrade for the best performance and gas mileage? what brands should I use? Right now I am just in the learning and dreaming stage so I am not worried about the cost right now. Anything anyone can teach me will be greatly appreciated.
