...and how is that a bad thing? You know something else, had he attempted to clock the new alternator, and it failed...maybe of it's own accord, his warranty would have been void.

Since this thread may run for a year, let me add that the bearings in an SI alternator is the EXACT same bearing in a Delco Model T generator. Guess what? You clock it the same F___g way.

Actually the front bearings are smaller in the later CS design, but yes, they work the same. The clocking would be the same process, but the case seats on the stator differently, so when the bolts are tightened improperly the case is cocked, which puts pressure on the shafts in the bearings.

Don't get angry. Having someone exchange a new part for another new part because it suits his needs better is NOT bad advice no matter how it's spun.
