454 EGR Valve ??

454 EGR Valve ??
In finishing up the rebuild of my 74 LS4....can I omit the EGR Valve and replace with just a metal block off cover. The A.I.R. pump and tubes have long been removed. Without the A.I.R. pump....does the EGR valve do anything? Other than "originality"....does the EGR valve actually do anything worthwhile?
