Default ebay never again

Well I purchased a 2004r transmission from ebay from tranzparts1 and it was supposed to be built to 450 horse. I get transmission which took forever and when shipped it was just plastic wrapped. I found the torq converter had come out and been hit hard enough to bend the snout of the torq converter. I call them and they aggree to send another week later call, oh we forgot to send

Get torq converter finally and put transmission in along with sidepipes and sts mufflers. Before install I saw no other damage. Install went great and tv cable was quick and easy. Took around block a couple of times and no leaks trans works to my surprise. Well week later nice day decided to give it its 1st run on highway. The ride was good shifts ok and im happy. Get home and open shop pull in and look back in drive and see transmission fluid. Sure enough see fluid coming out middle of transmission.

Call transparts and the guy tells me throw another seal in and ill be fine, I dont think so. pull transmission and talk to transmission place local and he finds the pump bushing had worked its way out and it was a stock rebuild and rust still on parts that wasnt cleaned properly.

Im pist now and call them back and tell them they can have there crap back. They agree and transmission is on its way back. They said they would refund but I dont take any chances and dispute charges and money is now frozen. All I can say is never again live and learn and please dont make my same misstake.

I now have a transmission ordered from bto stage 2 and a 2200 convertor and when I get it a 2hr install and vet back on the road again. Look on ebay and if you see tranzparts1 there stay away.

Sorry for being so long tried to keep it as short as possible.

Best regards

I am really sorry to hear that. Thats why I NEVER buy such critical parts for my Corvette from eBay, I only buy from honest, well-known professionals with a clear warranty/replace procedures.

leave eBay for the small cosmotic things only.

The trany had a 6 month warranty and money back garrentee and they were aware of the shipping damage due to there inability to pack transmission correctly. But you are right you never know with ebay there rating was great but they sell alot of parts to build transmission so its easy to get that rating up.

I felt pretty stupid out of the whole ordeal like was stated above never a critical part for my corvette on ebay. Im just glad that this happened because I would have had a transmission that wasnt built for 400 plus hp and would have had trouble later when I couldnt send back because warranty was up and transmission was blown.

Thanks for the replies hope to save someone else the same trouble i did learn a good lesson out of the deal.

Best Regards

Man that sucks! I'd never buy anything like that on Ebay because while there are honest people selling on Ebay, there are also scammers and I only buy stuff from those who have great feedback (can happend that way too) and I also never buy from anyone overseas.

I'd want to see something like a trans or motor in person rather then reply on a pic of word from a seller. Live and learn for sure, I Hope things work out for you and I'd report them to Ebay if I were you.

Well, at least they say they are going to get your money back. I guess I am with the rest of he guys and would not have bought something like that off ebay, I did find a local guy on ebay selling them though and did concider that, but ended up building it myself, with ebay parts!
So far I have not gotten any bad deals off Ebay and have bought a Lot of stuff, ya just have to be carefull.
Good Luck

I hear you , take a look at the steering boxes and differentials- guess what you're going to get for $100-$150. If I have a unit I want to sell I never use Ebay as everyone is looking for the lowest price and just end up with just the cheapest.

Just curious...nowhere do you mention how much you paid for the transmission. An inexpensive transmission would be a big hint that it's not "as advertised". Did they say what they did to it to make it "built to 450 horse"?

I bought the 200 4r core from RNF cores here in Jax, and the converter/kit/trans go shift kit and new front pump from Michell tranny supply here in Jax also.....so far....it's fine....

wish I did go with my intuition though and took weight off the governor flys.....it shifts too soon, but liveable enough I"m not dropping the pan again....

Did the guy or company have a lot of positive feedback, or mixed feedback? And since you have had a bad experience with them did you leave negative feedback so others will be advised?

Yes had good feed back and transmission price included converter and shipping ran 885.00 they are still selling them on ebay stating all upgrades to 450 horse. The transmission guy who looked at it said that I got what I paid for a stock rebuild for that price. To much time to do anything on ebay as far as feed back. Like I said I feal like an idiot and learn good lesson. Im glad it happen it would not have lived long behind my 383 stroker. I think it will work out for the better if get my money back. Credit card company said that because it was damage at ship and was not as avertised not to worry. We shall see.

I was just looking at a 200r4 on ebay. No core trade required, rebuilt good price. This is a different outfit and they have a 100% good feedback with all buyers being happy. I wonder if you just got a bad one, if everyone else has been happy with the seller. I've bought in the last 7 years about 1000 parts, cars, etc. I've had 4 BAD deals and may 4 more I wished were a little better but when I reread description I see I should have know or asked a few questions. Not a bad average in my opinion. I just ALMOST sold two hardtops a 62 white off my 62 and a 64 white. Both high bidders backed out. One with an excuse and one with an attitude.

Yes bought and received good items from ebay also. I just will not buy certain parts anymore. If the transmission would not been damage at shipping it would have worked fine. The thing is it was never built to what they said it was.It was a stock rebuild. Good news I got my money back they did do the right thing in the end. Thanks for all the support to all that posted Now big wait to BTO transmission cant wait.

Best Regards

I have bought alot of stuff on ebay. I have never had any problems. For big ticket stuff I stay away from private sellers and only deal with pros. There are alot of big businesses that do a portion of their sales on ebay. Always check feedback and stay away from stuff that sounds to good to be true (like the perfect 67 big block I saw for $6500!!!)

I buy a lot of stuff off of eBay. most of it, good experiences. perhaps 1 out of 30 is not-so-hot.

you can't fully trust the feedback, because some vendors threaten to give you negative feedback if you do a negative feedback on them. and then nobody will sell to you, especially if you're trying to establish your rep. it's a form of blackmail.

you do have to read the vendors' feedback BEFORE buying, and try to read between the lines, what are they not saying.

you do have to scrutinize the item carefully, look at all the photos, ask critical questions to the seller.

I do continue to buy off of eBay, because some stuff, you just can't get anywhere else at a fair price. and "fair" price is not the same as "cheap" price.

as always, caveat emptor.

Yes your right and they had good rating and I did ask alot of questions and talked to the transmission builder. Like I had stated above the transmission would have worked if not damage in shipping they didnt pack it right for shipping to have the torq converter come out and get hit. Bowtie crates theres and charges you for it. I have no problem paying 60.00 for crate then to have to take a transmission back out again.

So many on this forum had good things to say about bowtie overdrives and I should have spent the money the 1st time and followed there good advice. I did learn a good lesson on this one follow the good advise of so many on the forum and chances are you will be happy.
