Default How to remove trim from t tops?

I have been staring at the t-tops on my '80 to figure out how to remove the trim so that I may strip them. Does anyone have any hints?
Thanks

Ed

Check the '80 AIM; it shows the installation of the trim on the tops. Installation may have included an adhesive.

Try a search on the C3 forum, seems like I saw a post sometime back where someone was removing the trim using a small block of wood and gradually tapping the trim off. I think they put it back on the same way. Remember, this is what I THOUGHT I read, so check it out before proceeding.

Mine were riveted and glued on.

Drill the rivits out, They are under the weatherstripping
use a putty knife to break the adhesive

use a wooden or aluminum block and slowly and carefully tap the trim off.

I just did this exact very thing last week. You need to remove the weatherstrip to access the rivets.

From your profile you have a 69, maybe trim attachment was changed later on.
Mine is a 76 and his is an 80, mine does not have rivets anywhere on the T top trim, the trim looks to be "crimped on", the only thing close to rivets is the screws that hold the window side WS on the top.

I just did this last year on my 74. You have to remove all of the weatherstrip from the tops and once you've removed it you will see the rivets and screws that hold the pieces together. Once you remove them you can tap the trim off the t-top using a small piece of wood. Be carefull or you can break off a piece of fiberglass. Once the trim is removed you will notice that the edge of the tops has a bump all around the tops. This helps to secure the trim once you re-install it. Try not to sand this bump off because if you do the trim will not fit as tightly as before.

Default t tops

On my 77 the top trim is crimped on.I had to remove them last night(going to media blaster).I tapped them off with small hammer and small block of wood.No complications at all.I think when I put back I will dribble some fluid epoxy inside trim and tap back on.

Just checked the 70 AIM and didn't see rivets. Was attached with a sealing compound.
