Default Neutral Safety Switch...4spd to auto conversion '69

this is for the '69 tilt front.....originally a 4spd car and now an auto (th350)....there is no Neutral Safety Switch (NSS) wired and the original 4spd clutch pedal is still in the car.....there looks like there is some switch at the top of the clutch pedal that has been disconnected......how do i install the NSS ? what am i actually disconnecting or grounding out? is it the starter solenoid circuit? and does any one know if the wiring harness is the same for a 4sp or auto??? perhaps i will get lucky and the wires are already there?

thks bob

The switch on the clutch is the clutch safety. It connects the circuit to start the car with the clutch in. You can probably hook that up to the neutral safety switch.

.....i wonder how its wired........so you are thiniking just taking the leads and extending them over to the NSS and see what happens?

lets think about this for a moment.....they had to do something with those leads from that swtich .....i bet they just wired them together.....i will look tonight, ...if i disconnect them and the car will not start then i know i have found the correct wires....thanks for the idea

When I switched from auto to 5 speed, I used the two wires that originally went to the automatic neutral switch and used them to connect the clutch safety switch. Can't remeber the colors but can't see why it wouldn't work in reverse.

On a later auto the purple start wire is interupted by the nss at he shifter mount under the console.
You could join your existing clutch wires together and break the purple.

Yes it is the two purple wires. On a 4 speed car they are wired to the clutch switch. When the clutch is depressed the wires are connected allowing the starter power to go across them. On an auto car the two purple wires are wired to the neutral safety switch. When in Park or Neutral the wires are connected allowing the power across and the car to start. You can just wire these together or put them to a neutral safety switch or a hidden switch as said above.

ok heres the deal......the wiring harness is wired for both the clutch safety switch and the Neutral Safety Switch.....the previous guy just jumpered the clutch safety switch using the existing plug in harness.....it was the same connection for either spot....so i unplugged it and wired it up to the NSS and now its a bit safer.....one more issue resolved....
