Default 80-82 Front Air Dam

Looking for info from people who have had to replace the front air dam, lower valance, air baffle or whatever else they are called on an 80-82.It's the part the rubber spoilers mount to.Information such as,which is best, fiberglass or urethane? How did it fit up compared to the original? Was there any trimming of the part involved? Pitfalls to watch out for. THX

I didn't replace mine, I repaired it. Mine was urethane, and if I were to replace it I would use urethane again. I think Ecklers has them for around 199.00.

I have not gotten that far on mine to get that area reassembled yet, but concidering its under the car and vulnerable to parking curbs I would go urethane, much more forgiving than fiberglass

Edit:
You didn't say what was wrong with yours? If it was like mine, bent all to hell, I am going to follow annother forum members suggestion and use a heat gun to soften it a bit and reform it. Patch as necessary and paint.
Mine has the stainless reinforcements for the rubber pieces, all new stainless hardware going in.

Yes, I replaced mine on my 81 last fall. Got the fiberglass one from Ecklers because they said the urathane one is no longer available because it was a GM piece.

The fiberglass one fit real nice, had to take a grinder to it in two small spots where it overlapped the bumper cover on each side. Two spots the size of a penny. Just to make it nice and flush. (maybe I'm fussier than others).

Painted the top to match the car, the bottom flat black, added two new rubber pieces and is great. Havent hit the ground with it yet and I'm an inch lower than most.

Good luck

Heat gun works wonders on the polyurethane. I reformed mine and the new rubber spoilers mounted up nicely. Ill worry about the paint on it when I have the car painted. Oh and if you go with fiberglass, it will fit well or as well as you make it fit because YOU HAVE TO DRILL ALL OF THE HOLES YOURSELF.

Goodluck

Eurathane is not available anymore. I got the fiberglass from either Zip or Wilcox, I don't remember which. It was $99 and I had to drill the mounting holes, but it fit perfectly, no problems. God bless, Sensei

I guess what I need to do is remove it so I can get a really good look at it. The front looks to have had several repairs to it. Looks like some cloth tape, self adhesive foam and some material that you would cover a bar stool with. The front spoilers look like they were cut off with a steak knife.I guess the bright side is that the spoiler retainers and hardware are still there. I'm thinking an EZ-Fit from Corvette America. WOW! I'm a junior member,I have not been a junior anything in decades. I love you guys. THX

I replaced it with NOS GM from Eckler's. Shame they are out of them. Nothing fits like OEM.

Mine was damaged real nice. I thought of replacing it with a fiberglass one but decided just to repair it, I also used a heat gun. I'm glad I didn't buy the fiber one, I hit a curb stop today. The airdam just flexed up, fiberglass would've been junk !

As of last year the dealer still carried the factory rubber one. Expensive came in 2 pieces at $80 each.
