Re: Worn out Idler arm replacement?? (JRChurch)
Nope -- go buy a tie rod end seperator and a ball joint seperator. They only cost about $6 bucks each at an auto parts store. They are also commonly refered to as "pickle forks".
You can also use a gear puller, but those are more expensive.
Probabaly will need a 'pickle fork' made to separate tie rod ends, just wack it good a few times with a 3 or 5 pound hammer. Many auto parts stores will let you rent/borrow these seldom used tools.
While we're on the subject - anyone know where to get a NOS idler arm? Mine was replaced with the current GM part - sans casting numbers and other original features I'm going to loose NCRS points on. :( So far I havent been able to find one. Or I suppose the other thing is rebuilding the original one (I have it saved). I haven't heard of anyone rebuilding them yet either. Any ideas? :seeya
