Im getting ready to install my intake, After mutiple attempts I keep getting a intake leak! Two questions Can I use anything to keep the gasket from shifting? Not much room for error here! Im installing a TPI intake with GM gaskets on Edelbrock #6073 heads non egr whos gasket do I use GM or Edelbrocks? Im finding the GM gasket a little short at the water jackets, and Edelbrocks isnt that much better
I used an adhesive on the top part of the gasket to the head. I can't remember what it was, but I think it was 3M whetherstrip adhesive. It held that sucker in place for me.
Edelbrock recommends their gaskets. I do use "Gaskacinch" to hold gaskets in place. RTV around the water ports, and a 1/4" bead on the China walls.
I saw that on their website..... how can they recommend their gaskets that only come in one thickness if they don't know if your block was decked or if the heads have been milled down a little ???
Install the manifold without gaskets at all, shim it up until the boltholes line up and measure what thickness gasket you really need.... use rtv on the front and rear so that stuff can compress as required until the gaskets are compressed.....

Well I tried as MyBad suggested, Installing intake without gaskets. I lined up all the bolt holes and the intake sits flush all the way around. Looks like you could use no gasket its so close. (I know, not the case) That said would I want to use a thiner gasket? The Gm gasket is much thicker than the Edelbrock! Also a different material?
See if you can get all the bolts in with a .060" shim between the manifold and the heads. (that's the standard thickness, FelPro for example) Now measure the gap between block and manifold. If that gap is smaller than the rubber gasket thickness then you have no choice but using RTV between the block and manifold. The rubber gaskets (strips) don't compress much and may prevent a tight seal between manifold and head surfaces....
Well, I think I will go with the Edelbrck gaskets as reconmended. Anyone feel free to enter your 2 cents NOW! I dont want to take this apart again! One question can anyone explain the different gasket materials?

As long as it's a name brand gasket I wouldn't worry. FelPro or edelbrock... doesn't really matter. here's what I would do:
Install the intake loose with the new gaskets, see if all bolts go in easily.... tighten them hand-tight.... now measure the gap between block and intake and see if that rubber strip would fit.
My block was decked and it seems that the heads have been surfaced as well, I needed .120" thick gaskets to get all the bolts lined up. The gap between block and intake was 'normal' - a little smaller than the rubber strips, they would have fit I think but I just used RTV....
