Engine Ventilation
I want to use the custom aluminum valve covers that I got with my 73 project. One has a hole for PCV and the other has an oil fill cap. The stock 73 air cleaner has a breather tube going to the right valve cover. Should I use this vent on the right side or should I use the PCV valve on the left cover? Thanks for the info. You should have a PCV on one side and a breather on the other. The breather should either have it's own filter, or get it's air from the filtered side of the air filter. Normally the PCV would be on the drivers side and the breather on the passenger, but it shouldn't matter.

You definitely need the breather/PCV....the breather draws fresh air into the engine and is essential to proper functioning of your PCV system. Doesn't have to hook into the air filter, can have a press in chrome filter which looks nicer and allows me to use a non factory aluminum drop base air cleaner. You would use that as your oil fill location as well. Mine has the stock (for '68) oil fill tube through the intake manifold so not an issue for me.
