I'm thinking about replacing my Dash Harness on my 72. There seems to be a big price range, from $340 until almost $500. Anybody have any good advise/experience on this?
For that kind of money I would think you can rework your original harness, unless i'ts destroyed by fire/the like.....soldered/shrink wrapped wire splices, etc.....if the fuse block if really rusted out, then you maybe into something allright....had a mid year project once that happened to...mess...
if your harness is in fair condition, you should be able to repair it. i bought a wire diagram from dr rebuild. it has all the correct wire colors and wire gauges, and also pictures of all the connectors. it's also laid out so the wires are identified as they branch out of the harness. it would make testing and tracing each wire relatively easy, and with the pictures of the connectors, you could replace as needed.
I got the Dc Rebuild diagram. I'm missing bulb sockets, connectors or they are broken. Looks like too much hassle for me. I have a 73 Harness in perfect shape, seems a bit of a waist to cut that up for repairs. Bu tthen again it is a fair amount of money to buy new.

well I have done both the rebuild and buy new.
the only thing about rebuilding is that the wiring can simply be too old and brittle to be worth reconditioning depending on the age of the car, as well as the connections missing or damaged.
if you are going to rebiuld though. you must get a wiring diagram and take the time to test every circuit in the harness with an ohmmeter looking for good "flow" in a circuit as well as making sure there are no shorts or bleed though across the various wiring paths. very time consuming but required if you were having problems to begin with
For my money, new wiring harness is the best investment you can make on an older car. electrical fires are nasty and In most cases leave you with a burned hulk.
Cant do much about the overseas shipping other then to find a friend in the us and have them send you a "gift" of old car parts
i've got my old harness from my 70 that is mostly complete. when i'm finished installing my new harness(it may take a month or so) if you're interested, i'll sell it to you at a very fair price so you don't have to cut up your other harness.
Let me also say go through the Last Detail if you decide to buy new. I got the engine harness and forward lamp harness a couple of months ago for about $100 less than directly through Lectric Limited. Great product and easy install.

My dash harnes was so jacked up I went with a new harness. Figured my car was worth a few hundred bucks to prenvent it from catching fire and being left with nothiing.

Wish I wooda knowed about this last year when I did my forward harnesses! Still, Lectric Limited does a GREAT job. I'm gonna do my dash this summer... 'Last Detail' it IS.
Small update: I just received the new Harness from TLD!! Sure looks solid. I even think it is made by Lectric Limited!! "Can remember some brand ending on limited" It also includes instructions for early and Late 72!! Thanks for pointing me in this direction.
