Default Ring gap on KB Hypereutectic pistons

On the sheet that came with the pistons it stated the top ring needs to be gapped at 26 thousanths, but I cant find what the second ring should be. Does 16 sound about right? I know the keith black hypers are different because the top ring is placed so close to the top of the piston. Higher heat causing the ring to expand more. I didn't know what the second ring should be.

Thanks for the info, back to studying for finals...

James

PS Sorry for my spelling errors

Keith Black's website does not mention any special clearances for the 2nd ring. Here is their info on the top ring.

Right on that page it says " NOTE: Second ring end gaps do not need extra clearance"..

I have these pistons and they have a problem with breaking there upper lip, secound ring gap is .010"-.025" and remember no more than 34 deg total timing.

That is kind of scary that the rings can expand enough to pop the top of the piston off even with as much as .060 ring gap. Definitly will invest in a good timing light so I can be sure not to run more than 34 degrees timing.

Thanks for the info and on that page.

For 4" bore street-performance 350sbc:

Set the top ring gap to KB specs ... wide ... because of KB's bastard short top land.

Set the 2'nd ring gap to 0.020"-0.022" ... (0.005" gap per 1" of bore) ... this well-established spec in accordance with recently-published procedures (2005) by speed pro/federal mogul/sealed power.

as an ME student ... I strongly suggest you apply for membership in SAE ... they have special rates for students ... lotsa GREAT contacts to be made ... very good publications ... and ready access to all SAE standards ... including ring specs. Wish you continued success in your studies & hobby. www.sae.org
