Default Cold Natured 82'

MY 82' has been pretty good, it runs like a champ when it gets warm, but till you get it warm it almost wants to cut off and it will backfire on me. I've talked to a few other 82' owners and they said that their's will crank right up and run normal. Where should I start?

Backfire through the exhaust or through the intake?

I would try changing the CTS and O2. Both cheap and part of routine maintenance.
