At one time I remember reading that someone had a Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Holley/Demon carb under a Base corvette hood, I would like to know how to do that, the setup I have now already touches the hood. I currently have a Performer + Demon + drop base 2" air cleaner. 1972, orange, 350/4speed.

Several people have done it, including a friend of mine on his '72, so I have seen it in person, before that I was a sceptic! He had to mill the choke horn off the carb and use a smaller height air filter, (can't remember if it was a 2" drop base) but it fit!

just finished building a 383 stroker with my dad for his '78. we went with the edelbrock rpm air gap manifold, a holley double pumper and a K&N air cleaner. edelbrock is right in saying that the air gap won't fit under the stock hood - at least not with the stock air cleaner - but why would you want to use that anyway. get a drop air cleaner from k&n like this one that we used (1 1/4" drop):
haven't dropped the motor with this setup in the vette yet, that's coming this weekend, but we've done a lot of measuring, and our new setup with the rpm air gap manifold, holley, and k&n filter is actually slightly shorter than all the stock parts were.
I had a Per RPM intake, non air-gap, with an Edelbrock carb and used a drop base, 14"x2" air cleaner. The drop base was about 1 1/2" drop, and requiered some "massaging" to clear the elec. choke. The filter lid was very close to the carb and was restrictive to airflow, hence the "had". It was only a temporary setup until I was able to get a raised hood, and I would not recomend it without something a little differant. One of K&N's filter lids would make a huge differance probably (I had this setup before K&N introduced them).
