Default rear shocks replace, need to remove body from frame!

Removed the diff today, to take care of excess play in side yokes.

Got carried away, was originally going to just replace the shocks. This turned into shocks and a composite spring, then next thing you know the diff was out. With all the space under there now, maybe time to pull the gas tank for refinish and new hoses. Hey, those #4 mounts are gone, maybe I should finally take the new ones out of the box they have been in for 2 years, along with the new body cushions.........

Well if you are still following. This in interesting. The upper shock bolts seem to be in backwards. The nuts are on the outside the bolt heads are on the inside. I don't see how it will be possible to remove the bolts as they are about 1/4 in from the body (battery and jack boxes). Maybe I really should take care of the body mounts, or it looks like the saws-all will be getting some exercise on those shock bolts. How the heck did those bolts get in there like that! Are the original shocks red? I didn't think these were original, the fronts were from NAPA and looked similar.

thought the original shocks were gray. I ended up cutting the outer ring of the shock itself off because my bolts were totally rusted to the inner sleeves. It's a pain, but nowhere near as bad as the T-arm bolts.

eh, if you can get your nutz off, just drill a hole in the side of the storage compartments in a good location, then tap it closed again, and do things right.....I would use aluminum HVAC sticky tape after you clean the surfaces with carb cleaner and dry.....

damn if I would bust my *** over something so simple....

A sawzall or some heat will make quick work of it without damage if you are carefull.

Bummer. Sounds to me like somebody but the shocks on when the body was off the frame and put the bolts in the wrong way. As you found out, it makes it pretty tough to change the shocks.
