C3 180deg Side Pipe Headers
Has anyone ever come across side pipe headers for a C3 set up in the 180 deg format, that is swapping the center 2 cylinders from each bank to the opposite side so that the firing pulses are exactly 180 deg apart, I'm thinking it would give an even exhaust note, and should boost mid range power. I used these on speedway super mod saloons and they sounded unreal, like a banshee howl.
The only problem I could see is that 4 pipes need to cross sides under, behind or in front of the engine, and keep the lengths as near to equal as possible. On the speedway engines the pipes went around the back of the engine so it wasn't a problem.

We have a club member with those extractors on his C4. He got another 600rpm out of the motor before it ran out of puff. Highly modified vehicle.

This winter (we're coming up to it now) I'm going to get under the car and check out clearances, my side pipes are getting toward the end of life so could be interesting. At present my side pipes are singles to rams horn manifolds, which sound flat and uninteresting, I doubt that these are the original '76 manifolds so I am not worried about replacing them with my own fabricated headers, been a few years since I made a set, but it's like riding a bike, you don't forget. For baffles, I am leaning toward spirals.

Of course it's a "sound system". Exhaust modifications are all about "sound."

I'v e seen a 180 setup on an old midyear GT-1 car with side exit exhaust, but I believe he had both pipes exiting on one side so the clearance issues under the car wouldn't be quite the same.
