After sheering a new u-joint (Federal Mogul with grease channels) and causing enough damage to need to replace a bunch of stuff anyway, can half-shafts and yokes be found that use larger u-joints? This is for an '81 with a Dana 44. If not, can you recommened the toughest u-joint known to man? One forum member recommended the Brute Force solid joints.
One other thing. I'll be needing a new fiberglass spring and two weights are available (340 & 355). Any recommendations here?
I've seen good feedback on the Brute Force here at the forum too. I don't know who makes them but maybe someone at Auto Zone(I think that's the right chain) will tell you. The standard for quite some time has been the Spicer solid U-joints. I've run them for about 10 years on my Vette w/o fail, including some pretty hard abuse at the strip(fingers crossed). There aren't alot of companies making parts like that- it's even possible that Spicer makes the Brute Force for Auto Zone to re-label. Maybe someone else has the skinny on that.
Chris:
Purchase yourself a set of Spicer U-Joints, they can be purchased from GM. Get the U-Joints WITHOUT the greese fittings. Once I get the big block in my car, I'm putting all new Spicer U-Joints in.
