The square red "headlight" indicator light on my console dash came on last night while driving and stayed on. All 4 lights were working? What is that indicator suposed to be warning me of??
Warning light indicates that one or both of the headlight doors is not opened completely. Look up at the headlight door operating mechanisms from beneath the car. There's a black plastic push button switch on each headlight that indicates if the doors open all the way. If one or both of these switches are bad the warning light on the dash will come on despite the headlights coming up all the way. One of these switches on my '72 started coming apart and the indicator stayed on until I cleaned the switch and zip tied the housing back together. Sucker still works, I almost forgot about the zip tie until this thread came up!
Yup, I had the same thing happen to me. I replaced the switch and it's OK. Here's what it looks like. Available from Zip, Ecklers, etc.
Those switches aren't cheap as I found out so what the heck, I don't need no stinkin red light to tell me my headlights are going up or down. One was already broken and disconnected when I got the car so I disconnected the other when it broke.
My 2 cents.
Thats exactly what I did for mine. One was already missing and the other was broking from the thread post and I found that they are REALLY expensive I just disconnected the other as well and the light turned off.
