Default Timing Set / Cover Help

Ok guys, I'm putting together what is mostly an L98... I've got a cloyes gear drive set up...and it didn't come with a cam button. Do I need one since the L98 has a "cam retainer" that bolts over the end of the cam? Then, what timing cover would I use? Every one I look at says "not for use with factory roller cams"... sheeze. Ideas, thoughts?

If your motor has a cam retaining plate you don't need a cover with a button. My ZZ4 w/roller lifter cam has a cam retainer plate and a plastic cover, no button.
I can't help with the question about what cover to use but I don't understand why any cover w/o a button wouldn't work. Maybe even grind the button off if it has one but just a guess.

That's what I was thinking. I can't think of anything that different between the roller and non-roller blocks.

Thanks!

When I put a double roller chain setup on my L81 engine, the stock cover would not fit. I just got an aluminum cover for a SBC and it fit just fine. I also had to get a new timing tab which turned out to be a problem as the radius of the alumimun cover was not as tight as a stamped steel cover...so the timing tab had to be modified to match that radius.

Always something..........

Good luck
