Default Removal of speedometer circuit board on a 1979

Hello,
When replacing the circuit board on the back of the speedometer on a 1979, how do you get the metal flaps behind the tach off to remove the circuit board? Are there instructions available somewhere?

Thanks!

Take the tach out and pop them out from the inside of the housing with a small flathead screwdriver....they are kind of pressure fitted in there.

Just go carefully and don't break them

Default Take the Tach out

Thanks 1982CorvetteDude,
I have the front lens off, the speedometer and tach are behind a plastic frame with 2 tabs going into the base of the cluster. If I pry up the 2 tabs and try to pull the frame out it seems to be held in somewhere else. Is there another place the frame has to be released.
Thanks!

I'm trying to remember, but as long as you have the screws removed on the face of that plastic frame it should pretty much fall out after you lift up on it a little to clear those two tabs.

I have the 2 tabs out and have the frame maybe a half inch away from the case in the center at the bottom but both sides don't want to budge. Is there a tab on each side?
Thanks!

I'm not sure what to tell you, it techically should come out after removed all the allen screws in the front of that plate. There should be six I think.

Then it's a matter of grabbing it in the center, give it a good lift and pull it out. No tabs on the side, it's smooth.

If you can take a picture that would help

Anybody else see anything I'm missing??

The clips while hard to get out.. push out from the inside out on the housing.

They are discontinued and I have a very limited supply of them left.

Posting to an old thread but I try to search for answers first. So to remove the clips I pry the tabs and push them out? I dont trust me not to break at least one ... what is the fallback option. My PCB is not bad but the copper is peeling in spots. I assume that is not fixable ... or is it?

I'm going to resurrect this thread because it's one I came across while trying to solve my problem. I had a bad printed circuit board on my '78 that needed replacing. I read this thread beforehand and am pretty sure Wilcox is out of business. It was mentioned the metal clips are discontinued and in limited supply.

I decided to proceed with care and unfortunately broke one of the three clips anyway. The metal was old and brittle. I could not locate any available parts for a C3 corvette. But all was not lost. With a little detective work I found printed circuit retainer for 73-87 GM C10 pickups are an exact match. These do not appear to be in short supply with many online sources. I ordered 3 from Ecklers at $2 a piece. I've confirmed they are an exact match for the clips in the C3.

I'm now sporting 3 brand new clips on my dash cluster. If anyone else runs into this challenge, look for the C10 clips!
