I am replacing my original 350 with an externally balanced 406. The rotating assembly for the 406 comes with a 168 tooth flexplate. Does this mean that I must change my original stock starter. If so, will a starter for a 400 fit properly on a 1977 corvette?
IF your 77 came with an automatic trans ... it PROBABLY has a 168T neutral balance flexplate ... IF so, use a 400 ext bal flexplate & your 77 starter. Regardless whether 350 or 400 ... the correct fit factory-type starter for 168T has a "staggered" bolt pattern.
-edit-suggest you fill out your profile with a bit of basic info ... model year, engine, trans, running gear-drivetrain mods and approx location (weather) ... will help answer future Q's.
