Default Starting problems

Why would I be able to start my 78 vette, drive it around for a while, but when I stop and shut the car off, I can't start it for about 1 hour. I turn the key and get nothing at first. I wait about 15 minutes, and get a little cranking sound, but then I wait an hour, and it starts. It struggles, but starts.

Could be that your starter is getting overheated by the engine and needs to be replaced. I have read similar problems like yours and it seems as though a worn starter is the problem.

If you do not have any apparent running problems, I would try the starter.

Good luck,
Dino

The heat from your exhaust causes extra resistance in your starter. Starter may be worn from the heat cycles. Get a heat shield, new starter and you'll have no more problems. I had the EXACT problem with my 79 with stock manifold. I bought the moroso starter shield and a new starter. Or you can go the hi-torque mini starter.

Thanks. Should have realized that I replaced the exhaust last year. Went with Flowmaster, not too soft, but not obnoxious. I'll try it. Thanks, again.
