I have been thinking about getting a line lock from summit lately. is this hard to do yourself? and should i also purchase the accessory kits? do these things come with directions? thanks
Pretty easy to install, there just was a post not to long ago from one of the guys that installed it on his vett, might want to do a search for linelock. But if you can find a place closr to the master cylinder, when you order the line lock order a short lenght of brake line like a 12 0r 16" peice, it comes with the double flared ends with fitting right on , then you disconnect your line coming fron the master to the front brakes, install this short section, hook the other end to the line lock, then carefully bend the front line that was connected to the master to the line lock, bleed, wire up the solenoid and smoke the sheet out of them tires.

Re: Line Lock install. Hard? (Vetteboy)
Bleed the brake lines thoroughly before installing the line lock. If ANY debris gets into the line lock it will not work correctly. Most often when this happens it will no longer disengage.
This how I installed my line lock. It's the TCI line lock from summit racing. All I did was pick up from AutoZone one straight thread to flare input & one 90 degree brass thread to flare and a 6 inch flare tubing. You take the front brake line off of the master cylinder and hook it into the LL output 90 degree brass. I gently bent the tubing 90 degrees in my hands and attached it.
The 79's have a firewall rubber grommet to pass a wire through to the fuse box where you use a open slot for 12 volts.
Barrels of fun and it's the only way to heat up slicks.
Note the custom zip tie looms for "Taylor 409" 10.4mm wires.
Couldn't you mastermind some setup so that if you had a manual transmission you could have you rev limiter and line lock deactivate when you let the clutch go? I don't know much about all this micro switch stuff but I think it could be done. There's local car guy around here with a 68 Camaro has a two stage rev limiter. One to launch on and one to control maximum revs. When the clutch lets go it switches from it's 3000 launch limit to 7000 or something. Like I said, I don't know much about this but I think the possibilities are endless.
Gkull, thanks for the picture. that is really gonna make this install easy. unless like always, something goes wrong
let me ask you something. is installing a line lock really gonna help my 1/4? the tires barely spin as it is. but i asume this would make it more consistant. i would like to launch the car harder, but my brakes wont hold the car. i usually launch at 1800. is there anyway to make it so i can launch at a higher rpm. remember i have an auto. thanks
Linelock will not help your 1/4 times, it is made to hold the car by the front brakes for burnouts.
Reading your sig and comments it sounds like you either need a higher stall or smaller cam. Your cam works in the 2500-6500 rpm range. At 1800 launches you are not in the power band of the cam.
Vetteboy - line locks are for heating up tires that require lots of heat. I can only get 1800 rpm or so also before the motor overcomes the rear brakes and pushes the front tires.
I have a two stage rev limiter and set it at 1600 for a power brake launch. when the brakes go off the 1 stage goes away. I set the upper rev limiter at 7000 so shifting in the sputter zone is easier on the tranny etc. because your not making power
To make my 1/2 ownership dragster more consistant. We used a rev limiter and trans - brake in one thumb push button on the steering wheel. Then it had an rpm activated air shifter
