Did a search relating to saggy doors and determined my hinge pin bushings are shot. Spring is OK. I purchased the kit from Zip. Can some one give me a little guidance on replacing them. Do I have to take the door off? Thx, Lee
Take the spring off first. Block the door up or have someone hold it. Tap out the pin, then the bushings and replace them. Not a bad job. Do one hinge at a time.
Just did this to my 77 while I was painting it. Of course the doors were removed. You don't need to remove the spring. Remove the door. The lower hinge is easy you have room to remove the pin. Now the upper hinge is a diffrent story. I couldn't get the pin out because the head of the pin would not clear the fender. Well the only way to acess the the upper hinge bolts was to remove the dash pads. Removed three bolts loosened the one top bolt and tilted the hinge back to remove the pin. When putting it back together look for the witness marks from the washers to line hinges backup
i did like artsvette says, my top pin hit the fender also, i used a 3' 4x4 board under the door with two floor jacks. knocked the pins out slowly rolled the door away from the car as far as the electrical wiring would let me.(power windows and door locks) i had my son and one of his friends hold the door while i knocked bushings out and installed new ones, i had to grind a small amount off the upper pin head to get it to go back in without hitting the fender. just rolled the door back into position. took about 30 mins. to do one door.
