OzzyTom, those wheels are probably from here:
http://wheelvintiques.com/shopsite_s...ml/page75.html

I just wish I could find 17" versions of the factory YJ8 aluminum wheels.

The stock wheel bearing design is not that fantastic even with the stock rims and tyres. Wheel bearing wear is an issue with early C3's. The wider the rim, and especially the bigger the offset, the greater the load and increase in wear will be. Not to mention the increased load with higher cornering G's
Great thing about getting bearings from vansteel. They warranty em for 5 years.

Think our bearings are bad? C5 bearings only last about 60k miles, usually. With those you can't replace JUST the bearing, you have to replace the whole half shaft with the bearing.

The nicer thing about the Cragar soft 8s is that they've got a 0 offset so the bearing load is nice and even. Unfortunately, however, they weigh like 38 lbs. each.

Very good point. Especially on the rears, significant increases of offset without a similar increase in back spacing place tremendous additional stress on the bearings. Warranty or not, changing them out prematurely isn't my idea of time well spent.

So if you're considering wider wheels to fill up your flares, suggest you don't half do the project. Install a set of Van Steel's offset trailing arms, too. Then you can put some huge rubber on the road.

Don't forget a shortened rear spring...

I went all the way with VS offsets modified to use Currie Johnny Joints, Modified Dragvette Loops, custom 6 link, Guldstrand spring, and wilwood calipers...

Now that I've gone from 15" to 17" wheels,I suppose it would be smart + look better with larger rotors? How much larger,& from what company, would I get the best deal for the money? Powerslot? And I guess the VBP stainless 'O' ring calipers I bought wont work then... Thanks...

Do you have one of Tom's diffs in the middle of all that?

...and, yes. The shortened spring is a must with the offset TA's.

Default New C-5 Brake Upgrade For Early Vettes W/17" Wheels

In about 2 to 4 weeks VBP will be releasing a new Brake Upgrade Kit to put 13" C-5 Rotors and C-5 Brake Calipers on the front if you have 17" wheels. Many have asked and we will now have it.

The kit will be offered in the same way we offer the C-5 Upgrade Kit for C-4's, a kit for just the front or a kit with front and rear components. The rear will be a stock caliper for now, but you can get them powder coated to match (red, yellow or glossy black), the stainless steel braided brake hoses, matching Hawk Brake Pads and matching Sport Rotors. All necessary hardware and brackets will also be included, everything you will need.

Give me a couple of weeks and email me at pattie@vbandp.com or call me toll free at 1-800-237-9991 and I will have all of the info. such as price and delivery. We are just now finalizing all of the all of the final production bits.

Hope to hear from alot of you.

Hey,sounds great. I was just asking about this on "another forum".I already have gone to 17" Torque Thrust 2's front & rear, and larger calipers might look better behind them.
