Installed an msd 6al a few weeks ago and the unit has worked great since installation, but has a constant buzzing noise coming from the box?? I have a crane XRI point eliminator triggering the msd and it is wired like the installation instructions say for a pertonics kit as folows:
msd orange and black to coil + and -,heavy black and red to motor block and positive starter, white and red to crane xri wires as white to negative and red to positve, along with the red wire tied into a 12v ignition key power from the fuse box.
No other wires are connected to the coil, but i did not remove any other wires from the starter, just added the heavy red to positve.
ANY ideas what the buzz is? My feeling is it will die on me one day, something is wrong. stereo is stock and has the amplifier, box is mounted behind passenger glove box, mounted to the metal part of the dash.

The following comments are purely speculative, as I have no personal experience with the MSD system. (I've been running my brick solid hybrid HEI system for the last twenty five years.) It is my understanding that the MSD system is a capacitive discharge system. To derive the high voltage needed to charge up the storage capacitor in a CD system, one generally uses an inductor and an oscillator circuit. Perhaps the inductor package or driver transistor is slightly loose on the circuit board, causing a louder than normal noise signature. Could be something as simple as that, or something more serious. Without further investigation (or disassembly) it's hard to say what the true reason is. A short conversation with MSD seems in order.
Just my $.02
Get some sleep... capacitive discharge systems make a clicking or buzzing sound, it's the capacitor discharging each time a cylinder fires.
You can mount it using rubber isolators to help quiet it down.
I have a Crane HI-6 mounted to the heater box under the passenger side dash and can hear it over sidepipes and blower whine
